Gialiskari Beach

Gialiskari Beach — Calm Waters and Sunset Views

Gialiskari sits in a protected bay on the northwestern coast, just a few kilometres from Korissia port and within easy reach of Vourkari village. It is the most accessible ‘proper’ beach on the island — ideal for a morning swim followed by lunch in Vourkari.

Character and Setting

The beach is a strip of golden sand backed by knolls of dense vegetation — pines and low scrub that provide patches of natural shade. Because it faces west and sits in a sheltered inlet, the water is generally very calm, making it well-suited for families and less confident swimmers.

A wooden-decked beach bar occupies the central section, serving coffee, cold drinks and light snacks. Sunbeds are available for hire, or you can find a free spot at the quieter ends of the bay.

Why It Stands Out

Gialiskari is described as the most ‘cosmopolitan’ beach on Kea — by island standards that means a relaxed beach bar atmosphere and proximity to Vourkari’s restaurants, rather than anything loud or crowded. The combination of calm water, natural shade, accessible location and excellent sunset position is rare.

As a west-facing beach, Gialiskari catches the full drama of the Aegean sunset. In summer, the sky turns amber and rose behind the silhouette of the opposite hills — a compelling reason to linger into the early evening.

Getting There

Gialiskari is 3–4 km from Korissia port, reachable by rental bicycle, scooter, or a short taxi ride. A continuation of the coastal road leads to Vourkari (2 km further), making a pleasant combined trip. In summer, the bus between Korissia and Vourkari also passes nearby.

Practical Tips

  • Beach bar is open daily throughout the main season
  • 3–4 km from Korissia — easily reachable by bicycle or scooter
  • Evening visits for the sunset are as rewarding as daytime swimming
  • The road to Vourkari (2 km) is an easy and pleasant coastal drive or walk
  • Calm water makes it suitable for young children and nervous swimmers
