Sikamia Beach

Sikamia Beach — Shaded Cove, Local Favourite

Sikamia is the kind of beach that locals want to keep to themselves. A small enclosed cove with natural tamarisk shade, calm water, and a complete absence of development — consistently described as one of the most peaceful spots on the island.

The Beach

The tamarisk trees that fringe Sikamia are its defining feature — they grow down almost to the waterline in places, providing genuinely cool, dense shade that is rare on a Cycladic beach. The water is calm, clear, and slightly sheltered by the natural shape of the cove. Sand and fine pebbles make up the shoreline. There are no facilities.

The combination of shade, solitude and clean water makes Sikamia particularly appealing in high summer, when more accessible beaches can feel overcrowded and exposed to the sun.

Getting There

Access is via a rough road that requires some local knowledge or navigation. Ask at your accommodation for current directions, as access tracks on Kea can change. Alternatively, the beach can be reached by boat from Vourkari — a popular option among regular visitors who know it well.

Why Visit

Sikamia offers something increasingly rare: a beautiful beach that has not been ‘discovered’ in any commercial sense. Its inaccessibility and lack of facilities are deliberate deterrents that preserve its character. If you’re willing to make the effort — on foot, by rough road, or by boat — the reward is one of the genuinely special spots on the island.

Practical Tips

  • Bring everything — Sikamia has no facilities at all
  • Arriving by boat from Vourkari is the most relaxed option
  • The natural tamarisk shade is a significant advantage in mid-summer heat
  • Early morning visits (before 10am) offer remarkable light and quiet
  • Ask locally for the most current directions to the access track
