Archaeological Museum of Kea

The Archaeological Museum of Kea in Ioulida holds finds from across the island spanning Neolithic through historic periods, including the celebrated Agia Irini Kores and material from Ancient Karthaia. It’s a compact, rewarding stop before or after visiting either site.

The Collection

The museum’s collection reflects Kea’s long archaeological record. Among the key exhibits are the Agia Irini Kores — Late Bronze Age clay female figures from the prehistoric settlement near Vourkari — which are among the most distinctive objects in any Cycladic island museum. Material from Neolithic to historic periods is also represented, including finds from Ancient Karthaia. The building itself is in Ioulida and accessible as part of a village walk.

Practical Notes

Opening hours and admission should be verified with official museum or municipality sources before visiting — hours change seasonally and can be reduced outside the summer months. The museum is a useful first stop on any itinerary that includes Karthaia, Agia Irini or the Lion of Kea, as the context it provides enriches all three visits.
