Stone houses and lanes of a Kea village

Sykamia Beach

Sykamia is one of Kea’s most beautiful beaches — a combination of sand, thin pebbles and shadowy trees at the end of the Drys route through the island’s oak forest. The approach is half the experience.

The Beach

Sykamia is remote enough that it never feels crowded, even in peak season. The combination of sand, pebbles and natural shade from the trees makes it one of the more atmospheric places to swim on the island. There are no organized facilities — bring water, food and everything you’ll need for the day. A short section of the road before arrival is a dirt track.

The Drys Walking Route

Sykamia is the endpoint of Route Drys (Route 4), which passes through Episkopi, Sotira and Perameria before reaching the beach — approximately 4.45 km of walking through Kea’s oak forest interior. It’s one of the most distinctive routes on the island, combining green landscape and shade with a beach finish. Allow extra time and bring water for the walk.

Practical Notes

No facilities at the beach itself. Bring supplies for the day. The road approach involves an unpaved section. For the walking route, check the current condition of signs and trail before setting out on any long or remote path.
